Key PeopleConor McCarthy – Managing Director Conor is founder and editor since 1984 of the Techinvest newsletter. Before devoting himself full-time to Techinvest in 1993, Conor spent 30 years working in the telecoms industry for companies in the UK, Canada and Ireland. Between 1982 and 1993 he held project management positions on major projects for a number of countries including Ireland, Kenya and Germany.He has been an advisor to the Dublin-based Montgomery Oppenheim Technology Exempt Unit Trust since its inception in 1994. Conor is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Campus Companies Venture Capital Fund, set up in May 1998 with funding from an Irish Government agency and the seven principal universities in Ireland, to commercialise academic research. Darren Freemantle – Investment Manager Darren is active in the day-to-day management of the Techinvest Funds, and is a regular contributor to the Techinvest newsletter.He began his career as a software engineer at GEC Marconi Avionics before moving to Lloyd’s of London as a business systems analyst. Prior to joining Techinvest, he was at Steria, a pan-European IT service provider, holding various positions in business development and consultancy. In his spare time, Darren was chairman of an investment club in his workplace which he co-founded. Desmond Green – Strategy Advisor and Consultant Desmond is a chemical engineering graduate of University College Dublin. He did post graduate work at the University of New Brunswick in Canada where he obtained an MEngSc and was also a faculty member. He was awarded an Honorary DSc by UNB in 1995.Desmond was a founder member of the UCD Engineering Graduates Association and of the Campus Companies Venture Capital Scheme. He was a founder member and former chairman of the Dalkey School Project, Ireland’s first multi-denominational primary school. There are almost forty such schools in Ireland now. Michael Kirby – Consultant Analyst Michael Kirby is a consultant to Techinvest. After completing a PhD in Faculty of Economics at Cambridge University, Michael worked as a lecturer in economics and business studies in the UK and overseas. His specialist subjects include portfolio management, business risk assessment, and derivatives trading. His subsequent career involved financial journalism, training, and a period as a full-time research analyst for Techinvest.Michael is the author of several publications on the subject of stockmarket investment and trading. He currently combines writing with full-time trading and management of his own investments. Keith Woolcock – Consultant Analyst Keith Woolcock is a consultant to the Techinvest Funds. He has over 20 years experience in the technology sector, both as an award-winning journalist and commentator, and as a rated investment analyst with several leading stockbrokers, including a period as head of the Technology research team in the London offices of leading Japanese bank, Nomura.Keith is at present the technology sector expert at Westhall Capital, a firm specialising in investment advisory services for institutional clients. He is regularly invited to make guest appearances on business TV channels. |
